SIPs Stand up to Tornado Winds Project Profile

Tornado Winds - (TN)

Mac and Kim Chesley researched products before buildng their two story home in Sumner County, Tennessee. R-Control SIPs promised a quieter, energy efficient, more durable home, and it was. At 2:00 AM, November 10th, 2002, a loud horrific wind noise woke them from their sleep. In one big heaving event, the house was lifted, shifted and then set down suddenly. The R-Control SIP house had been buffeted by tornado winds, confirmed by the National Weather Service to be over 200 miles an hour.

The R-Control SIP house held strongly together. So strong in fact, that the house stood up to the damaging winds, while the cement blockfoundation failed. The only damage to the house was a few loose roof shingles and two broken windows.
